Unless a dentist locates (1) in a very rapidly growing area
under served by the dental community, or (2) in a rural location,
starting ‘from scratch’ is not usually recommended. The average cost
to set up a new, efficient operation in a metropolitan area today is
$35,000 - $40,000 per operatory plus tenant. Whatever solution
is chosen, the tenant improvement costs can add up to a very sizable
figure.
Purchasing an established practice will provide an immediate
patient base as well as the luxury of an immediate income. An
experienced staff familiar with the patients and systems is equally
important as patient base and income.
